A pitch-black room. A soft, hissing breath against your left ear. No security cameras to save you. Welcome to Five Nights at Freddy's 4, the static interactive horror game where every click determines your survival or your heart-stopping scare.
Listen to the thudding footsteps, then silence. Pause for a moment. Listen carefully. A soft breath means the monster is at the edge of the door, forcing you to close it immediately. Turning on your flashlight when you hear a breath means offering yourself up for a terrifying scare.
Foxy lurks in this area with lightning speed. Only rush in when you see a closet door slightly ajar or shaking. Hold the door tightly until it shrinks into a harmless, limp plushie before shifting your attention elsewhere.

The flashlight is a double-edged sword. Shining the light at the wrong time is a tragedy. The little Freddles on the bed will grow and multiply if you're too lazy to chase away the light. Each night lasts six minutes, tense as a violin string. Half a second's delay and the clock's chime will pierce the night.
Panic-filled keyboard slamming is the shortest path to an unjust game over. If you hear the clatter of pots and pans in the kitchen, dodge the door because Chica is busy elsewhere. Small real-life noises like a dry cough or a creaking chair are enough to disrupt your judgment of sound.
| Enemy | Location | Identifying signs | Optimal response |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freddles / N. Freddy | Bed | Small Freddles gathered on the bed | Shine a flashlight to scare away Freddles periodically. |
| Nightmare Bonnie | Left hallway | Light breathing near the door | No breathing -> shine the flashlight to repel. Breathing detected -> close the door immediately (absolutely do not shine a light when listening for breathing) |
| Nightmare Chica | Right hallway | Breathing sound near the door or clattering pots and pans in the kitchen | Listen for breathing -> close the door. Listen for pots and pans -> ignore the right hallway (unless Foxy is heading this way) |
| Nightmare Foxy | Wardrobe | Fast running sound in one ear; wardrobe moving | Running in the hallway -> shine a light to block their way. Into the wardrobe -> close and hold for about 10 seconds when in danger form |
| Nightmare Fredbear | Variety (door, bed, wardrobe) | Footsteps stopping with a faint laugh | Stopping + laughing at the door -> close the door in 1.5 seconds. Laughing not at the door -> check the bed, then the wardrobe. Laughing while walking -> skips beds/wardrobes |
| Nightmare | Hallway (Nights 7–8) | Appears replacing Fredbear in the lobby. | Extremely fast door-closing reflexes in 0.8 seconds. |
| Plushtrap / BB | Minigame Chair. | Footsteps count rhythmically. | Turn off the lights to listen to the rhythm; turn on the lights at the exact moment the character touches the X line. |
Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is not for impatient, fast-paced players. If you like this kind of intense, heart-pounding thrill, try Poppy Playtime and see if your reflexes can handle it.
